Flu season hitting Alberta particularly hard so far this season

LETHBRIDGE – Just over one month ago, Alberta Health Services began recording and reporting the number people vaccinated against the flu virus, lab confirmed cases and the number of deaths from flu-related complications for the 2017/18 flu season.
 
And the numbers are quickly climbing.
 
So far, there have been 2,478 lab confirmed cases of either Influenza A and B.
 
The 2016/17 season saw 4,494 in total. In just one month, Alberta has seen more than half of the cases recorded in an entire year.
 
Nearly 1.1 million people have so far been vaccinated, with 82,454 of those in the south zone.
 
There have been 13 deaths so far in the province with two of those occuring in the south health zone as well. During the 2016/17 flu season, there were 64 deaths, with seven of those in the southern zone.
