Exhibition Park Fireworks a go for New Year’s eve
LETHBRIDGE – Anyone looking for a free local activity this New Year’s Eve can stop by Exhibition Park.
Park spokesperson Doug Kryzanowski says because they weren’t able to put on a fireworks display during Whoop-Up Days in August, they’ll do it on Dec. 31 instead.
“We haven’t done fireworks on New Year’s Eve for about six years. It used to be part of Family Fest when Family Fest was on New year’s Eve. Of course that discontinued last year. This year we got grant support from the City of Lethbridge as well as the Government of Alberta and we couldn’t do any fireworks for our two special grandstand concerts at Whoop-Up Days because of the fire ban.”
He adds that they thought it would be a nice appreciation gift to Lethbridge and southern Alberta for supporting Exhibition Park throughout their 120th year, and to commemorate Canada’s 150th birthday.
The fireworks viewing area will be in the South Parking lot, so anyone can come and get a good parking space to see everything.
He expects the show to last anywhere from 17 to 20 minutes.
“Usually our Whoop-Up shows are 10 to 12, so hopefully the weather is good and people can get some great pictures.”
It all begins at 9 p.m. If the fireworks must be cancelled for any reason, check back to this site or LNN Facebook or Twitter.
