Arrest at downtown bank leads to multiple charges
LETHBRIDGE – Multiple charges have been laid against a Lethbridge man arrested at a downtown bank last week.
Lethbridge Police said they got a report around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, that a man they were looking for was at the bank. He allegedly became combative and belligerent and was arrested after a brief altercation. Officers said he had the keys to a stolen vehicle with a stolen license plate parked outside. A woman in the vehicle was released without being charged.
Kody Abraham Martens, 30, is charged with four counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000; three counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000; two counts of theft under $5,000; assaulting a peace officer; two counts of disqualified driving; and two counts of driving without insurance.
Police said the alleged offences all date to the last two months, including a case Jan. 22 when a homeowner confronted someone in their vehicle who had a knife. Additional charges from RCMP in Picture Butte and Coaldale are possible, along with pending charges of failing to stop for police.
