LETHBRIDGE – 47-year-old Troy Mark Dean has been charged by Lethbridge Police in connection with an incident where a truck was stolen, and the owner assaulted as he attempted to stop the theft.

According to police, on Feb. 1 around 5:30 p.m. police responded to the Canadian Tire Gas Bar along the 1200 block of 2 A Avenue North after receiving a report that a White Chevrolet Silverado truck had allegedly been stolen.

An investigation found the owner of the truck parked his vehicle near the pumps, went inside the gas bar and as he left the store he saw an unknown man get inside.

The owner jumped onto the driver’s side running board to get the man to stop, but the vehicle fled causing the owner to collide with a parked vehicle before he fell off.

He was examined by EMS but didn’t require further medical treatment.

The truck was recovered a short time later several blocks away and late Thursday night police identified the Dean as the suspect, and he was subsequently arrested without incident at a northside home.

Dean is charged with assault with a weapon, dangerous driving and theft of a vehicle.

He’s currently remanded in police custody and is awaiting a Judicial Interim Release hearing.
