Coaldale woman killed in crash at Broxburn intersection

LETHBRIDGE – A woman has died following a crash in poor conditions Friday, Feb. 23.

RCMP said the 43-year-old Coaldale woman was a passenger in a Volkswagen Jetta that was eastbound on Highway 3. As the car approached the traffic light at Broxburn Road, the driver tried but failed to slow down, and the car struck a stopped flatbed trailer from behind.

The passenger was extricated from the car by members of Coaldale Fire Department, and taken to the hospital, where she died several hours later.

Neither driver was injured in the crash. Eastbound traffic on Highway 3 was diverted for approximately one hour.

It happened around 4 p.m. Conditions at the time were described as icy with poor visibility and blowing snow.

RCMP are still investigating and ask witnesses to contact the Coaldale detachment or Crime Stoppers. Victim Services is being made available to friends, family, and witnesses.
