Accused in significant cocaine bust remains in custody, changes lawyers
LETHBRIDGE – A 26-year-old Fort McMurray resident remains in custody at the Lethbridge Correctional Centre, after being charged earlier this month in connection with the seizure of suspected cocaine at the Carway border crossing.
Bradley Michael Gaudrault appeared briefly in court via CCTV Monday morning, Mar. 26, at which time he stated that he has just retained Calgary lawyer, Sean Fagan, and released the local attorney who took on the case last week.
The Crown prosecutor noted that they are opposed to Gaudrault’s release, and the matter was adjourned to Thursday, Mar. 29, potentially for a bail hearing.
The charges against Gaudrault stem from a secondary inspection of an SUV at the Carway crossing on Mar. 17. Members of the Canada Border Services Agency reportedly found 31 bricks of suspected cocaine hidden in what authorities called a “sophisticated” compartment in the trunk of the vehicle. It was also noted that it was a record bust for the Carway port of entry.
