LETHBRIDGE – After a recent social media snafu over pro-life advertisements on city bus stops, the City of Lethbridge has announced it will be removing the ads due to the adverse community reaction.

In a release, the city says the advertising contractor has been notified of this decision and has confirmed that the ads will be removed from Lethbridge Transit buses by Thursday, April 5.

Ads will be removed from bus benches and shelters by this weekend.

To date, the City has received more than 100 emails, as well as numerous comments made via social media with the large majority of them voicing strong opposition to the ads.

“We acknowledge that advertising on public spaces must meet community norms, and that sometimes there can be a range of values and views,” the statement read. “The best interests of our community are always paramount, and we will continue to exert discretion in the use of all public advertising spaces.”
