Delays continue in west side standoff case
LETHBRIDGE – The case against two men accused in a west side standoff with Lethbridge Police in early 2017 remains stalled, as both individuals have yet to return from Ontario.
Brian Fulljames and Forrest Jensen were scheduled to go to trial in February, but it failed to proceed as the couple had moved east and could not make arrangements to return to Lethbridge. They explained through Fulljames’ lawyer, Greg White, that they had applied to Ontario Works for help in getting back to Alberta for the trial but were denied. White explained that they were appealing the decision, and the matter was adjourned to today’s date, April 6.
With the case back in court Friday morning, White told the court that Ontario Works still hadn’t responded to their appeal and asked for more time. He also noted that they might have another option to bring both men back. A further adjournment was granted to May 4.
Speaking with Lethbridge News Now after the court appearance, White said they are considering an offer from the Crown prosecutor’s office but may ultimately decide to re-set the matter for trial.
