Changing consumer habits prompt closure of Centre Village RBC branch

Apr 29, 2018 | 11:19 PM

LETHBRIDGE —   It isn’t a lack of business that ‘s behind the impending closure of the RBC Bank in Centre Village Mall. Instead, it’s a change in consumer habits.

According to a letter sent to Centre Village RBC customers, those changing habits include a pronounced move to online and mobile banking. For that reason, the Centre Village Mall branch is being merged into the Main branch downtown on 4 Avenue South.

The merge takes affect on August 24, 2018, with the Centre Village branch ceasing business at noon on that day.

Bank officials are working to make he merge as painless as possible for its customers, who will be keeping their current account numbers and cheques.  Centre Village customers will still be able to bank at any RBC branch or ATM and will be able to meet with an advisor for any assistance they might need.

Customers who have safety deposit boxes will have the boxes moved to RBC’s main branch and will still be able to access the boxes with their current key. If customers would find the Mayor Magrath Drive or Westgate Centre branches more convenient, they simply have to notify Centre Village before its closing date.

RBC is also holding a community information session for its customers, regarding the merge and banking arrangements that might be best for them.  It will take place on Tuesday, May 8, from 6:00 to 7:30-pm at the Lethbridge Lodge on Scenic Drive.

Anyone with questions can call 403.382.3860 or visit the Centre Village branch before August 24.
