LETHBRIDGE – A scam involving fake gold that’s been making the rounds of southern Alberta has led to several complaints to the Lethbridge Police Service.
It involves people claiming to need money for gas or food and trying to sell what they claim to be real gold such as jewellery. Police say they’re well-practiced and quite convincing, often resorting to high-pressure tactics. The gold, however, is fake.
Outside of Lethbridge police say the incidents have escalated to actual fraud or robbery.
Members of the public are advised not to buy jewellery from people they don’t know, and if approached, to call police immediately.
