New traffic controls and safety improvements require 4-week detour at Scenic Drive-4 St. South
LETHBRIDGE — The City planning department wants to ensure motorists are aware of another road construction project which will require a detour.
Beginning Wednesday (Aug 1), work will begin on intersection improvements and new traffic controls, which will improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists at the Scenic Drive and 4 Street South intersection.
The project is designed to connect the newly opened Bike Boulevard along 7 Avenue South and 4 Street South to the existing regional multi-use pathway system along the south side of Scenic Drive South.
Motorists who use this area will be detoured around the intersection during the initial phase of construction, which is scheduled for four weeks.
Other safety enhancements at the intersection will include:
— New traffic control lights installed on Scenic Drive South and 4 Street South
— New pedestrian-activated traffic control lights for crossing Scenic Drive South
— New traffic control lights for the Bike Boulevard connection to the regional pathway system
— Permanent closure of the 9 Avenue South intersections with 4 Street South (see attached photo)
