LETHBRIDGE – Change is coming to a busy west-side intersection.
When people head back to work Tuesday, Aug. 7, they will notice a new four-way stop at the corner of Columbia Blvd. W. and Laval Blvd./Lafayette Blvd, the intersection between Nicholas Sheran School and Westvillage Shopping Centre.
According to a news release from the city, staff have been analyzing the intersection, hoping to deal with the volume of traffic and the number of right-angle collisions, and a four-way stop was determined to be the best way.
The stop signs will replace the existing yield signs on Laval/Lafayette. In addition, a flashing-light pedestrian corridor will be removed, since all drivers will be required to stop before proceeding.
