Changes coming to Lethbridge transit routes

LETHBRIDGE – As of August 29, three main transit routes will see some changes, according to the City of Lethbridge, in order to improve route efficiency.

Route 22 from the city’s downtown to Lethbridge College will no longer include a loop through the south neighbourhoods of Fairmont and Coulee Creek.

That area will be serviced by a new “Route 40 Fairmont” that will leave from Lethbridge College.

Route 22 will take a more direct path between downtown to Lethbridge College to create a quicker trip and to help keep the bus on schedule for people who need to make transfers.

Anyone heading to the college campus will now also be dropped off on-campus, rather than having to walk from Scenic Drive.

In north Lethbridge, Residential Route 31 will become “Route 41 Blackwolf”, to reflect the area where it runs. A small section of Route 41 in the Sherring Industrial Park will be discontinued due to minimal ridership.

The west end of that route will see it change from using Lettice Perry N. to Mildred Dobbs Blvd N.  It will avoid one school zone and an area the city says experiences significant snow drifting in the winter months.

In west Lethbridge, to prepare for the opening of the Cor Van Raay YMCA at the ATB Centre, the number 35 will stop on the north side of the building and will run behind the building on 30 St. rather than in front of the building. A small section of the route in the Copperwood community will also be discontinued.

In addition to the route changes, there will also be audio announcements on all routes, notifying riders of upcoming stops.  The transit improvements are part of the recommendations contained in the city’s Transit Master Plan.
