Minimum wage hike will not do much to fight poverty says Fraser Institute

VANCOUVER — the Fraser Institute says a study it has done shows a hike in Alberta’s minimum wage won’t do much to reduce poverty.
That research found 92 percent of minimum wage earners do not live in low-income housing. It adds about half of that group were teenagers or young adults, 85 percent of whom lived with their parents or other relatives.
Another 2.1 percent were single-parent families with little kids.
The Fraser Institute goes on to say in a news release that other research has found that a higher minimum wage can mean higher prices, less employment, and fewer hours and benefits.
All of the findings in the study can be found on the Fraser Institute website.
