Ethics commissioner clears UCP leader Jason Kenney of conflict allegations

EDMONTON – Alberta’s ethics commissioner has cleared United Conservative Leader Jason Kenney of conflict allegations over his trip to India.

Ethics Commissioner Marguerite Trussler says Kenney and fellow legislature member Prasad Panda were up front about their trip and did nothing wrong.

During their visit last month they met with senior Indian government officials and industry executives to discuss oil investment along with concerns about tariffs on Alberta pulse crops.

Kenney says the complaint filed by the NDP was frivolous.

Trussler also criticized the NDP caucus for announcing it had filed the complaint without letting her office know first.

And she is warning all politicians not to use her office as a partisan attack dog with a spring election looming.

Christine Myatt, a spokeswoman for the United Conservative caucus, says the party expects the NDP to file more bogus complaints before the election.
