LETHBRIDGE –  The 18-year-old man wanted following what was described as an “out-of-control” party has turned himself in to Calgary police.

Peyton Thomas Kale Many Shots, of Brooks, was subsequently released on a recognizance, with a court appearance scheduled for Lethbridge Nov. 20.

Many Shots is charged with assaulting a peace officer, disarming or attempting to disarm a peace officer, and obstructing a peace officer. Police accuse him of tackling an officer from behind and trying to take away the officer’s taser.

A portion of the incident outside La Cite des Prairies community centre was caught on video.   The centre had been rented out for a private Halloween party attended by approximately 100-150 youths between the ages of 15 and 21. The altercation happened around 1:30 Sunday morning, Oct 28.

On Thursday, Nov 1, Lethbridge Police confirmed the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating the incident between one of its officers and a male subject.

Following review of the video, a notification was made to the Director of Law Enforcement as required under Section 46.1 of the Police Act in relation to matters that are deemed serious or sensitive in nature. An independent ASIRT investigation was subsequently directed.

“I have the utmost confidence in our officers and the training we provide,” said Deputy Chief Scott Woods. “Transparency is critical to maintaining the public’s trust and as a Service we welcome this independent investigation by ASIRT.”
