Desnoyers leads Canada Red to world under-17 Hockey Challenge semifinals
Elliot Desnoyers scored 4:34 into overtime, giving Canada Red a 2-1 win over the United States on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the world under-17 Hockey Challenge.
Canada Red will face Finland in the second semifinal Friday at Harbour Station in Saint John, N.B. Russia will take on Sweden in the other semi.
Matthew Maggio had a power-play goal 14:32 into the second period to tie the game 1-1 for Canada Red. Dylan Garand made 30 saves for the win.
Dylan Peterson scored for the Americans (1-2-0) and Drew Commesso stopped 32 shots.
