Castle Mountain preparing for season-opening weekend

Dec 13, 2018 | 10:19 AM

PINCHER CREEK – The first day of the 2018-2019 season at Castle Mountain Resort is finally here.

On Friday, Dec. 14, the doors will open on what staff is hoping is another fantastic season beginning at 9 a.m.

Exactly which runs will be open this weekend is still up in the air, but Castle Mountain expects to be operating Sundance (Blue) Chair, Tamarack (Red) Chair, Huckleberry Chair, Green Chair, and the Buckaroo magic carpet, essentially all of their core lifts.

The Huckleberry Zone will have a few runs only but again, early season conditions exist so staff ask people to watch out for what lies beneath.

The only beginner terrain available looks like it’s going to be on the Green Chairlift (Green Zone).

This season they’re doing things a little bit differently. If you bring a minimum of three non-perishable food items on Opening Day, you’ll receive $10 off your lift ticket.

Volunteers will be on hand between the Alpenland rental shop and the main day lodge helping people fill up pickup trucks which will then deliver the much-needed food to food banks in Pincher Creek and the Crowsnest Pass.
