LETHBRIDGE – According to the Alberta Park’s numbers, more than 171,000 camping reservations were made in 2018 – exceeding all nine previous annual totals.

The https://reserve.albertaparks.ca/ program was introduced in 2009, as a way of helping people connect better with the provincial parks system.

In 2018, the RAP system processed 164,101 regular campsites, 3,251 group sites and 3,638 comfort camping units.

The 2018 total exceeded last year’s online reservation tally of 163,780.

There are about 250 campgrounds in Alberta, with 14,000 campsites.

Even though reservations are only open February to November, there are still several areas where people can winter camp if they wish. Those are listed at https://albertaparks.ca/

Here’s a list of opening reservation dates for 2019.

  • Feb. 4 – group camping
  • Feb. 11 – comfort camping
  • Feb. 19 – regular camping
  • Feb. 25 – backcountry camping
