LETHBRIDGE — Weather across Alberta on Saturday, December 29, 2018 provided a variety of photos — none of them attractive.

Central and northern areas of the province were under a Snowfall Warning, with RCMP advising motorists to stay off the Highways.  At mid-day, officers were dealing with a 30-vehicle pile-up west of Edmonton and ditches cluttered with vehicles throughout the region.

In the south-west corner of the province there was a wind warning.  Fire crews dealt with grass fires north of Cowley and along Highway-22, spread by sustained wind speeds over 100-kmph. Motorists reported driving through gravel being blown by the wind.  Wind speed signs recorded peak busts of 167, 181 and 187 —  before a sign broke under the strain.
