Boutin earned silver in the women’s 1,500 in 2:23.140 seconds, 64 thousandths of a second behind South Korea’s Kim Ji Yoo (2: 23.076). Suzanne Schulting of the Netherlands (2:23.200) was third.

Boutin has three Olympic medals from last year’s Games in Pyeongchang — a silver in the 1,000, and bronze in the 500 and 1,500 — and was Canada’s flag bearer at the closing ceremony.

“I noticed that all of the best girls were up at the front and we weren’t skating very fast,” Boutin said. “I used that as an opportunity to conserve my energy and put myself in a good position so that I could finish strong in the end.”

Cournoyer finished second in the men’s 1,000 with a time of 1:25.412.

In other Canadian results, Alyson Charles finished fourth in the women’s 1,000 and Steven Dubois was fourth in the men’s 1,500.
