Canes take 5-2 loss against Saskatoon Blades
LETHBRIDGE — After an emphatic 7-2 trouncing of the Broncos Friday night in Swift Current, the Hurricanes were back home Saturday night to host the Saskatoon Blades.
The Canes opened the first period on a strong note. Just over a minute in, Taylor Ross lobbed his 27th goal of the season, with the assist from Noah Boyko and Dylan Cozens.
The 1-0 score held until 13:24, when Saskatoon’s Emil Malysjev tied the game. Those were the lone goals in a first period that produced just two minor penalties in the last minute of play. Then five seconds before the buzzer, Nolan Kneen found the back of the Canes’ net, giving the Blades a 2-1 lead. Saskatoon outshot the Canes 17-10 and both teams were 0/1 on the powerplay.
The second frame saw both teams produce a single goal at the halfway mark. The Blades’ Gary Haden tipped his team’s game-winning goal past Carl Tetachuk at 9:27. Less than a minute later, Jake Elmer notched his 28th of the season, dropping the Blades’ lead to a single goal.
