LETHBRIDGE, AB – The provincial government has named six new court judges for Alberta.

One of whom has connections to Lethbridge’s post-secondary institutions.

Kristin Ailsby serves as the chair of the board of governors for Lethbridge College. She has also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Lethbridge and as a legal advisor at Lethbridge Legal Guidance.

She received her Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Alberta and became a member of the Alberta bar in 2003. According to a release from the province, Ailsby spent much of her career practicing in many different fields before establishing her own firm, Clarity Law, in 2016.

Clarity Law is based in Lethbridge. In 2014, Ailsby was named the Volunteer Lawyer of the Year in Lethbridge. She also received the 2013 YWCA Woman of Distinction for business leadership award.

Gregory Stirling and Susan Pepper have been appointed to the Calgary Criminal Division and Calgary Region. Gay Benns has been appointed to the Calgary Family and Youth Division.

Rhonda Tibbitt goes to the Edmonton Criminal Division, and Greg Rice has been appointed to Vermilion Provincial Court.

The six new judges fill current and upcoming vacancies.

The provincial government positions and appoints judges to the positions, unlike Court of Queen’s Bench and Court of Appeal justice positions. Those are funded and named by the federal government.

Since 2015, 33 provincial court judges have been named by the province. 22 of those are women.
