LETHBRIDGE – 28-year-old Kyle Blakely, who is facing dozens of charges relating to possession of stolen property, uttering a forged document, fraud, false pretenses, making/possess identity documents, possession of undelivered mail, and possession of credit card data pleaded guilty to two unrelated charges in Lethbridge Provincial Court Friday, Mar. 8.

The Crown and Defense both made a joint submission to Justice P. McIlhargey, which involved the circumstances surrounding two charges of intent to avoid arrest.

On Sept. 22, 2018, Blakely was in a vehicle with at least two other people, when Lethbridge Police noticed the license plate didn’t match the vehicle description. Police tracked down the vehicle owner who provided an explanation. The vehicle Blakely was in, was pulled over, and he gave police a fake name. When he was taken to the police station, he gave police a second false name.

During their investigation, police found out who he was and that the false names were given in order to avoid arrest on outstanding warrants.

Justice McIlhargey sentenced Blakely to 30 days concurrently for each charge, however the time has already been served as Blakely remains at Lethbridge Correction Centre on nearly 100 other charges. Defense counsel told the court his client is unemployed currently and also has substance abuse issues.

Blakely’s alleged accomplice, Tammy Judy Yolanda Kotowski, who is facing dozens of charges herself, including possession of undelivered mail, possession of stolen property, possession of credit card data, making/possess identity documents, fraud and others, appeared in person in Lethbridge Provincial Court Friday.

Both will be back before a judge March 26. Blakely will also appear on Tuesday, March 12 in traffic court via CCTV to address a third matter.
