Pinch hitter Heredia homers in Rays big inning, Tampa topples Blue Jays 8-4
TORONTO — Pinch-hitter Guillermo Heredia highlighted a five-run eighth inning with a two-run homer and the Tampa Bay Rays took advantage of some sloppy Toronto defence early en route to an 8-4 win over the Blue Jays on Sunday.
Heredia’s homer, off Toronto reliever Tim Mayza, gave the American League East-leading Rays (12-4) an 8-2 lead.
Kevin Kiermaier started the offensive flurry in the bat-around eighth with a run-scoring double. Pinch-hitter Mike Zunino brought home two more with a single.
