LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Police have charged a 44-year-old man with drug offences as part of ongoing efforts to target drug traffickers in the downtown core.

Members of the Downtown Policing Unit and Priority Crimes Unit were conducting an enforcement operation on April 11 when they saw a silver SUV, known to police for having previously been stopped in relation to drug offences, exit the alley along the 1000 block of 1 Avenue South and park a short distance away.

A man on a bicycle who followed from the alley got off his bike and approached the vehicle. Police then witnessed activity consistent with a drug transaction.

After further investigation the driver, Kenneth Donald Leverington, was found in possession of a bulk container of 10 grams of methamphetamine and nine pre-packed foils containing purple carfentanil.

In addition, the enforcement operation also resulted in police arresting nine people on outstanding warrants.

Leverington is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and was released by a Justice of the Peace. He’s scheduled to appear in court on April 18.
