LETHBRIDGE, AB – Thanking her supporters Tuesday evening at the Legion on Mayor Magrath Drive, and expressing how privileged she was over the last several years, former NDP MLA Maria Fitzpatrick reflected on her time in government, representing Lethbridge-East.

“I’m so proud of our government, and the things that we accomplished. I’m so proud of the things that I was able to do to step up and support the legislation that we moved forward. So, I think I’m just full of emotion as I think back over the last four years.”

She cited her work on raising awareness of domestic violence, environmental issues, investment in southern Alberta and work on agriculture as some of the highlights of her time in office.

During her campaign, Fitzpatrick said she generally got very good responses and wasn’t sure why the tide turned.

“I’m sorry it wasn’t enough, but I don’t know what else we could have done.”

During her speech to her supporters, Fitzpatrick said she would remain active in the community, and would speak up on issues she felt passionate about.

“I look for to what’s going to happen. And if I don’t like what’s happening, I’ll certainly be an activist and say so.”

Fitzpatrick also congratulated Neudorf on his win adding, “I hope he’s prepared to step into my shoes and keep moving forward for Lethbridge-East.”
