Police investigating weekend break-in at Lethbridge courthouse

LETHBRIDGE, AB – An investigation is ongoing after someone broke into the Lethbridge courthouse over the weekend.

According to Lethbridge Police Service (LPS), officers responded to a report of a break-in at the courthouse on 4 Street South at around 8:00 a.m. on Monday, April 15.

The investigation so far, including review of video surveillance footage, found that a male entered the building by forcing a door open on the east side of the building on Sunday, April 14 at about 6:40 p.m.

Once inside, the man entered the family services office and rummaged around, according to LPS. He stole money from a cash box in the law library office and attempted to enter several more doors on the first and second floors. He was unsuccessful in those efforts and left the building out of the southwest corner of the building.

Police stated that the money appears to be the only property that was stolen. Damages are estimated at around $1500.

The investigation continues to identify and locate the man.

The unknown man wanted in connection with the break-in at the Lethbridge Courthouse is also a suspect in several other break and enters according to LPS. On April 6 at the Chancery Court building along the 200 block of 4 Street South (wallet stolen), April 9 at the Lethbridge County office along the 900 block of 4 Avenue South (wallet stolen), April 14 at the Commerce Court building along the 200 block of 3 Avenue South where offices were ransacked but nothing was reported stolen and an attempted break and enter April 14 at Chancery Court.
