Leading directors of global cinema to compete at Cannes
PARIS — Cannes Film Festival organizers have announced its 2019 line up, which pits revered directors such as Ken Loach, Jim Jarmusch, Terrence Malick, and Pedro Almodóvar against each other in competition for the top Palme d’Or prize.
The 19 entries announced Thursday in Paris include Jarmusch’s “The Dead Don’t Die,” a zombie comedy with Adam Driver and Bill Murray. It will open the May 14-25 festival on a starry, and surreal, note.
Malick, who won the top prize in 2011, will return with “A Hidden Life,” about an Austrian anti-Nazi conscientious objector.
