Child from Hutterite colony accidentally shot with .22 caliber pistol

PINCHER CREEK, AB – An 11-year-old child has been transported to Calgary Children’s Hospital, after being accidentally shot this morning.

Pincher Creek RCMP say around 11:30 a.m. (April 22), they, along with emergency services, were called to the Pincher Creek hospital for an 11-year-old child from the Pincher Creek Hutterite Colony, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police say after an investigation, they determined that a 13-year-old found, and was playing with the gun, when it accidentally discharged, hitting the younger child.

No adults were present when the incident occurred.

RCMP officers say they are continuing their investigation including the safety and storage of the firearm.

So far, no charges have been laid.

The child who was injured, has been stabilized.
