LETHBRIDGE, AB – Police have charged 57-year-old Rodney Bruce Prince in connection with multiple break and enters, including a recent incident at the Lethbridge Courthouse.

An investigation by the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) found that between March and April, a male broke into the Lethbridge Courthouse, Synergy Digital Dental Arts, Varsteel, Catholic Central High School and at The Cooperators. He was captured on at least two cameras.

Some of the property stolen included wallets – where police say debit and credit cards were used to obtain cash advances – cheques and cash.

Police believe the same man was also wanted in connection with other break-ins, including at the Chancery Court building along the 200 block of 4 Street South (April 6 – wallet was stolen), the Lethbridge County office (April 9 – a wallet was stolen), the Commerce Court building along the 200 block of 3 Avenue South (April 14 – offices ransacked but nothing reported stolen) and an attempted break-in on April 14 at Chancery Court.

“In most of the cases, the male gained entry to the buildings by forcing open doors and once inside, he rummaged through offices,” read a statement from the LPS.

Surveillance footage of the suspect wearing similar clothing was obtained in several of the incidents and then shared with the public as well as other law enforcement agencies.

Prince George RCMP identified the man. The man is known to police in Prince George and has a history of property offences, according to the LPS.

He was eventually located in Jasper and arrested by Jasper RCMP. He has no ties to the City of Lethbridge (prior to the courthouse break-in) but has been returned to the city to answer to his charges.

Prince, of no fixed address, has been charged with four counts of shopbreaking and commit theft, and two counts of theft under $5,000.

Prince is currently remanded in custody and appeared via CCTV Monday, April 29, from the Edmonton Remand Centre. The LPS said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are anticipated. He will be back in court May 13.
