Tony Award nominations Tuesday promise plenty of nail-biting

NEW YORK — Unlike in previous years, Tony Award nominations will be announced Tuesday morning amid plenty of uncertainty, at least in the top category for the best new musical.
Will the exuberant but youthful-skewing “Be More Chill” lead the pack? Or will the adult “Hadestown,” with a fresh twist on an ancient story? Or will it be “Tootsie,” a reliable, crowd-pleasing show based on the Dustin Hoffman movie?
With no one show dominating the conversation as in the past with musicals like “Hamilton” or “Dear Evan Hansen,” the nominations this year are more of a toss-up.
