LETHBRIDGE, AB – The University of Lethbridge’s chancellor will preside over his first official event later this month, the Chancellor’s Dinner.

Charles Weaselhead is the U of L’s first ever Indigenous chancellor. The annual dinner event is scheduled for May 30, and tickets are now available.

Multiple faculty, students and community members will be honoured at the event. They include winners of the U of L’s Volunteer Award, the recipient of the Speaker Research Award, the Distinguished Teaching Award recipient, the President’s Award for Service Excellence winners, honorary degree recipients and student medal winners.

According to a release from the institution, the Blood Tribe Department of Health has joined the event this year as the Student Excellence Sponsor.

“Their involvement is making it possible for student award winners from each Faculty, as well as the recipients of the Governor General’s Gold and Silver medals, to attend and be recognized for their significant accomplishments,” read the release.

Limited tickets are available through the University of Lethbridge Convocation website until May 21.

Weaselhead’s appointment by the U of L Senate took place earlier this spring.

He will officially be installed as chancellor during the Spring Convocation Ceremony I by Alberta Lieutenant Governor Lois Mitchell on May 30, before the Chancellor’s Dinner event.
