Fire bans in effect in parts of northern Alberta

May 17, 2019 | 8:37 AM

Campfires, unauthorized burning and off-highway vehicles (OHV) are banned on public lands throughout most of northern Alberta because of wildfire concerns.

The fire and OHV ban extends from Lac La Biche up to north of Fort McMurray, west to north of Slave Lake, west to Peace River, and then north to the Northwest Territories border.

Essential industry-related activities requiring the use of off-highway vehicles can be exempted with the approval of a local forest officer.

Individuals found contravening a fire ban may be subject to a $287 fine, or could be held liable for all costs associated with fighting a wildfire.
