Wind Expected to Fuel Wildfire near High Level

May 26, 2019 | 9:01 AM

GRANDE PRAIRIE — Sunday could be a critical day in efforts to battle the massive wildfire south of High Level.

The fire, which has now grown in size to 1,050 square kms, is still 3km southwest of the community.

However, there is concern that high temperatures and gusty winds changing direction to coming from the South west may increase fire activity and pose danger to firefighters working on parts of the fire perimeter.

Meanwhile, Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership has launched the process for any individuals wishing to donate items or other forms of support for the evacuees.

An email address – donations@gprepeoc.com has been launched for members of the public to contact if they wish to make donations.

They can also fill out a form online at www.gprep.ca/donation-centre-sign-up, which GPREP will look at and then contact the potential donor if their items or services are needed.

There are now 640 evacuees registered as staying in Grande Prairie.
