Settlement possible in April Irving animal cruelty case

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A settlement possibility was discussed in Lethbridge Provincial Court Monday, in the April Dawn Irving animal cruelty and neglect case.

Irving was initially charged in early 2015, after 201 dogs were seized from her property in Milk River, along with five others that were already dead.

Many of the animals found were starving, dehydrated and chained to stakes in the yard.

Irving was arrested a second time in Jan. 2019 by RCMP in Stonewall, Manitoba, on outstanding warrants from Milk River.

Her initial court case in Lethbridge was never concluded and there were reports of her living in Saskatchewan in 2016, and in Jamaica in 2017.

After a forensic assessment and several months in jail, she has been released, but is still facing 14 charges. She pleaded guilty to a 15th charge – failing to appear – and has already served her time.

An agent for her lawyer asked the court to adjourn her matter until a PTC (Pre-trial Conference) on June 24, while another court date June 28 was also set, to discuss “settlement options.” The judge agreed.
