FOX CREEK, AB – RCMP in Alberta say three young children who were found safe after an Amber Alert was issued early on Saturday, June 1, were with their mother and that the woman had been arrested.

This afternoon RCMP laid charges related to the incident.

42-year-old Charmaine Annette Darnel, of Whitecourt, has been charged with three counts of abduction of a person under 14, and one count each of break & enter, assault and uttering threats.

Darnel was remanded into custody for a court appearance in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on Monday.

There’s a local connection to this story, as 23-year-old D’artangan Dirk Pool from Lethbridge has also been charged as a result. He’s facing three counts of abduction of a person under the age of 14 as well as single charges of assault, uttering threats, forcible confinement, disguise with intent to commit offence and break & enter.

Pool was released by a Justice to appear in Fox Creek Provincial Court on June 24.
