Project Paintbrush to celebrate milestone during its 16th year

Jun 3, 2019 | 6:00 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A local volunteer group will have a lot to celebrate this year: it’s 200th project.

Project Paintbrush has been around for 16-years and Volunteer Lethbridge Executive Director Diana Sim says each summer they have anywhere from 200-300 people help out.

“Our purpose really is painting houses, decks, exteriors of houses and fences for seniors or disadvantaged people and really inspiring them to feel a sense of pride about staying in their home longer.”

Sims says their milestone project is tentatively booked for June 13.

“So, it’s all weather permitting, so we’re looking at that as our goal. So up to this point, we have 198 projects over the 16 years that we’ve done this. And so, to have 200 paints this year is pretty exciting and opportunity for us to celebrate for sure.”

And both the homeowners and volunteers experience a sense of pride.

“It’s very well organized, like a professional team that comes in….and the volunteers also experience that sense of impacting somebody’s life and making a difference for someone and really taking the pride in their work.”

For those who either may want to volunteer or who may need help, go to Volunteerlethbridge.com and then to “Project Paintbrush.” There, a homeowner or volunteer can fill out the appropriate application form.

They can also call 403-332-4320 and someone can bring them an application form, or they can stop by the Volunteer Lethbridge office.
