WHL announces 2019-2020 pre-season schedule

CALGARY, AB – Western Hockey League (WHL) teams will hit the ice at the end of August.

The WHL pre-season will begin on Tuesday, August 27 and close out on Sunday, September 15. The schedule, released Wednesday, features 60 games.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes will lace up their skates for four exhibition games. Two of those will be on the road, with the other two matchups on home ice at the ENMAX Centre.

· On Friday, September 6 the team will visit the Red Deer Rebels

· Saturday, September 7 – a rematch with the Rebels at the ENMAX Centre

· On Friday, September 13 the team faces the Swift Current Broncos at the ENMAX Centre

· Saturday, September 14 – the Hurricanes visit Swift Current

The Lethbridge Hurricanes’ training camp is set to start on August 28.

The WHL pre-season will also feature four tournaments, which will include events hosted by the Everett Silvertips, Regina Pats, Tri-City Americans and Vancouver Giants.

Everett’s tournament starts August 30, Regina’s on the same day, Tri-City’s on September 5 and the 2019 WHL champion Giants will kick-off their tournament on September 6.

The pre-season will include six games in five different communities outside of WHL club markets. Irvine, Alberta will host a game between the Medicine Hat Tigers and Swift Current Broncos on September 4. Medicine Hat and the Calgary Hitmen will match up in Taber on September 14.

Warman, Saskatchewan will host a game between Prince Albert Raiders and Saskatoon Blades on September 6, while the Winnipeg ICE and Brandon Wheat Kings face off on September 7 in Portage, Manitoba.

In Dawson Creek, B.C. the Edmonton Oil Kings and Prince George Cougars will play on September 12. The Oil Kings will serve as the home team. On September 14, the Cougars will serve as the home team at the Encana Events Centre.

The 2019-2020 regular season schedule will be released in late June.
