BREAKING: Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion Approved by Federal Government

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s administration has given its thumbs up to the Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion.

Senior government officials said in a technical briefing Tuesday afternoon that Ottawa has agreed with the National Energy Board (NEB) that the project is in the best interests of the country.

The expanded pipeline is expected to generate approximately $500-million in annual revenues. The government told media that it would funnel all of those resources into clean energy projects in the future.

The NEB previously introduced 156 conditions that must be met surrounding the pipeline expansion, but the federal government said it has taken an “unprecedented” step and will be amending six of them. Some of these include measures to increase spill protections along the Pacific coast, conduct more terrestrial studies, and around making tanker boats quieter.
