Downtown Lethbridge Farmers’ Market gears up for 13th Season

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Every Wednesday from July 3rd to September 4th will see dozens of food, craft, and other kinds of vendors flood Lethbridge’s Festival Square.

Exhibition Park Chief Operating Officer Mike Warkentin says he is excited to get going for another season given how popular the event has become.

“Consumers are becoming more aware of what they’re consuming and the primary production that is going on and the amazing agricultural sector here in Southern Alberta. I think efforts like this to get out into the community and actually experience that and touch it and meet the local producers is absolutely key for the community.”

Downtown Lethbridge BRZ Executive Director Ted Stilson says there are more than 3,000 people who work in the downtown core.

Of that, he estimates that more than 700 people attended the downtown farmers’ markets on average in years past.

Although the area has not had a grocery store for many years now, Stilson believes the farmers’ market is a great opportunity for locals to take a walk downtown and get high-quality produce and other items and interact with the people who grow and produce them.

Although Warkentin did not have the exact numbers on him, he says there will be several new and returning vendors this year, encompassing a wide array of local products.

The Downtown Lethbridge Farmers’ Market takes place each Wednesday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm starting on July 3rd along 3rd Ave and 6th Street South.
