Severe thunderstorm warnings / watches in effect for southwest Alberta

Jun 26, 2019 | 4:28 PM

Environment Canada says residents of several communities in the southwestern corner of the province can look out for severe thunderstorms.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Pincher Creek and the Piikani Reserve.

Severe thunderstorm watches are somewhat less intense, but impact Cardston and the surrounding towns, the Blood Reserve including Stand Off, and Willow Creek near Fort Macleod and Granum.

“Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Large hail can damage property and cause injury,” warns Environment Canada. “Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”
