Mudenge, Herdman cases to go to trial

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A 53-year-old Lethbridge massage therapist charged with sexual assault will head to trial. A preliminary inquiry was set for Cyprien Mudenge on July 2.

According to Lethbridge Police, a 34-year-old woman went to the police station in late November 2018, and reported she was sexually assaulted during a massage. The allegations involved inappropriate touching.

Police don’t believe there are other possible victims. Mudenge will be back in court Aug. 12, 2019.

And a 34-year-old Lethbridge woman charged with multiple offences including shoplifting, assault with a weapon, and robbery will also head to trial on two of those charges.

On June 28, Amber Herdman was sentenced to 30 days in jail for shoplifting under $5,000, however she will be back in court Dec. 5, 2019 for a trial on the other two charges, after she pleaded not guilty to them both.

Lethbridge Police say on June 11, a 68-year-old man had just arrived at his home and parked his vehicle in his garage, when a woman entered through an overhead door.

The woman yelled and demanded his car keys, and when he refused, the woman wrapped her purse straps around the man’s neck and attempted to choke him.

The victim was able to break free, but when he tried to use his phone to get help, the woman grabbed it and took off.

Police found the woman in a yard a few houses away. The man was not injured, and his cell phone was recovered.
