LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Field Law firm has announced the winners of its 7th Annual Community Fund Program.

Five non-profits in Southern Alberta are receiving funding to go towards their general operations.

Locally, $5,000 grants are going towards both the Stitch It Forward Society of Lethbridge and the Taber Lost Paws Society Animal Shelter.

Stitch It Forward has a group of women create and collect items needed in the community like blankets, chemotherapy hats, seat belt protectors, altered clothing for people who are physically disabled, and heart pillows.

“They encourage those who have a need to come to them and let them create an answer, such as the alteration of clothes to accommodate the ports required for chemotherapy,” reads a press release from Field Law.

They will use the money to rent a location where people can make these items while teaching new volunteers how to quilt or knit.

As for the Taber Lost Paws Society, their grant will help them to fund a new shelter, as the current one is “in a state of disrepair and does not meet the overall needs of the dogs kept there”.

This has lead to talks in recent years about potentially closing the shelter completely.

Once the Taber Lost Paws Society has secured enough money, they will operate the shelter completely themselves through a group of volunteers.
