Home starts in Lethbridge boosted by apartment construction

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Work on 62 new homes in Lethbridge started last month, marking a 35% increase from the same time last year.

That is according to the latest report from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHA).

In June 2019, construction on single-family homes was virtually tied with June 2018 at 32 and 33 respectively.

It was apartments and “all others”, however, that drove up Lethbridge’s numbers.

This June saw construction begin on 30 units, while there were only 13 last June.

The new report brings the “all others” closer in line with traditional houses for the year up to this point as construction began on 150 homes in 2019 compared to 127 others.

According to the CMHA, the higher numbers of apartments and row units is in line with what many of Canada’s metropolitan cities are experiencing.
