Lethbridge remains one of the most affordable cities in Canada for renters

LETHBRIDGE, AB – According to a National Rent Report produced by Rentals.ca and Bullpen Research and Consulting, Lethbridge remains one of the most affordable cities in the entire country for renters.

The report shows that the average rent for a one-bedroom unit is $925 per month, while a two bedroom on average goes for $1,098 per month.

The only other cities in the country with cheaper rents are Quebec City ($843/mo., $1,074/mo.) and Gatineau, Quebec ($825/mo., $1,101/mo.).

Not surprisingly, the top two most expensive cities are Toronto ($2,226/mo., $2,272/mo.), and Vancouver ($1,990/mo., $2,833/mo.).

Ten of the top 12 cities on the list of 33 with the highest rents are in Ontario.

Other Alberta cities on the list for one- and two-bedroom homes include Grand Prairie at $1,054 and $1,253, Red Deer at $1,056 and $1,171, and Edmonton at $1,097 and $1,327 respectively.

Fort McMurray edged out Calgary as the most expensive Alberta city for renters with an average of $1,320 for a one-bedroom, and $1,390 for a two-bedroom unit.

According to the report, the average properties listed across the country came in at $1,910 per month, a 2.1 per cent increase over the first quarter of 2019.

Rentals.ca includes information from basement apartments, rental apartment, condominium rentals, townhouses, semi-detached houses and single detached houses.

Properties listed above $5,000 per month or lower than $500 per month are also not included in the sample of analyzed units.
