LGBTQ2S+ Stories Needed for Museum Exhibit

Galt Museum looking for submissions for “Queer Histories of Southwestern Alberta” exhibit

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Galt Museum is looking to put together their first-ever exhibit that highlights and celebrates LGBTQ2S+ stories and materials.

Curator Aimee Benoit says they wanted to grow the variety of pieces they are able to show and diversify the stories they are able to tell about the region’s history.

The idea to create a showcase on LGBTQ2S+ in the Lethbridge area came about after a variety of community groups and the museum’s staff said that their stories have not adequately been told.

“They’re currently really not represented and we don’t have collections in our archives or our object collections that help us tell those stories, so that’s really the driving purpose behind this exhibit is to be able to start building those collections so we can tell those stories in a more inclusive way.”

The Galt Museum is putting out a call to anyone who has stories, objects, photos, videos, or anything else that can help them to tell this history.

Benoit is hoping to collect submissions in the next few weeks.

The Queer Histories of Southwestern Alberta exhibit is scheduled to be open from October 12th, 2019 to February 9th, 2020.

To submit your pieces, go to the Galt Museum’s website here.

The exhibit is being established in partnership with the University of Lethbridge’s Institute of Child and Youth Studies, The Taber Equality Alliance, OUTreach Southern Alberta and The Boys & Girls Club of Lethbridge & District’s Queer Impact Club from the MAT Youth Centre.
