Fort Macleod RCMP tracking rash of break-and-enters

FORT MACLEOD, AB – RCMP in Fort Macleod have responded to and are investigating several residential break-and-enters in the area.

According to a release from the Alberta RCMP, there has been a high volume of these types of calls since mid-July. Mounties say that the suspect (or suspects) appear to know that no one is home. They either find an open door or force entry into the residence.

Once inside, the suspect(s) quickly go through the home, stealing electronics, cash and other valuables.

The RCMP is reminding homeowners to make sure that their doors and windows are locked.

“This may deter an attempt to enter the residence,” read the notice from the RCMP.

Mounties say it’s also beneficial to record serial numbers of any valuables as that can help police track and find the stolen items.

“Be on the lookout for suspicious vehicles, and people knocking on doors or going onto property in rural areas,” the notice stated.

“Suspect(s) may be using a ploy or cover story when knocking on doors or entering properties to check if anyone is home.”

Anyone with further details on these break-and-enters is asked to contact the Fort Macleod RCMP at 403-553-7200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
