Review of Alberta Health Services underway, government invites public feedback

LETHBRIDGE, AB – You can help to shape the future of Alberta Health Services.

The United Conservative government has hired independent contractor Ernst and Young to complete “the first comprehensive review of Alberta Health Services (AHS) since it was formed 10 years ago.”

As part of their work, Health Minister Tyler Shandro invited Albertans to submit their thoughts.

“I look forward to their feedback and suggestions as we strive to strengthen the health system and deliver better access and better results overall.”

In the mandate of the review, the auditors will look into AHS’s management structure and administration, programs and services, compare them to health systems in other provinces, and gather input from employees, physicians, and the public.

The UCP said back in May that the review will have a particular focus on finding savings and improving the performance of the health system..

“Any savings that are found as a result of the review will be reinvested into the health system,” says Shandro.

AHS has more than 102,000 employees with a budget of $15.2-billion.
