CRESTON — RCMP continue to investigate a head-on crash that claimed the life of a child Monday (Aug 12) evening west of Creston.

Around 10:00-pm, an east-bound SUV crossed the centre line and collided with a west bound RV just west of Creston The RV flipped on its roof before caught fire. Four of the five members of a family in the RV escaped the burning vehicle. However, a four-year-old girl who had been sleeping in the back of the motorhome was killed.

The driver, and lone occupant, of the SUV, a 26-year-old man from Moyie, B.C., died at the scene.

Cpl. Mike Halskov, confirmed there is evidence to suggest the driver of the SUV was returning home from a music festival and impaired driving has not been ruled out.

A GoFundMe page was created to help the family of the four-year-old girl with their expenses, as the father recuperates from serious injuries. The page identifies ‘Marty and Janine Vanee’ campaign, as the parents.
